At the Kankakee Social Security office individuals can file claims for benefits, including retirement, disability, survivors, spouses, and children. People who have little or no income or resources can apply for the Supplemental Security Income program, which provides a safety net for aged, blind, and disabled adults and children. People can also apply for new or replacement Social Security cards. Most services are also available through the Social Security's Web site at www.socialsecurity.gov
In addition to administering their own programs, the Social Security office in Kankakee also assists the public in applying for food stamps and Medicare, including low-income subsidies under the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan.
