The Morris Council of the Boy Scouts covers Kankakee, Will and Grundy counties. Boy Scout programs are "designed to instill values and character development through unique outdoors programs." The outdoors is viewed and utilized as a classroom.
Capable and trained volunteers serve as role models for Boy Scout members. The Rainbow Council Scout Reservations is a summer camp program offered to all three counties.
Boys Scouts is a year-round program. To join, call 815-942-4450. There is a registration fee now, based on when you join during the year. Beginning Jan. 1, 2010, the fee is $15 a year.

Ron Jackson has been Executive Director of the Kankakee Community Resource Center since 2004.
The Kankakee Community Resource Center provides community services through a small staff and numerous volunteers. Programs include summer and after-school youth programs — featuring drama, art, music, sports, computers, and arts-and-crafts — plus events for community members of all ages, including safety programs and athletics.

The Garden of Prayer Youth Center's mission is to keep families together by providing structured educational and recreational programs to enhance family unity. They do this by networking with local agencies to provide services that will enhance dignity, pride, self-esteem, and self-worth in all members of the family.
Garden of Prayer Youth Center is a subsidiary of Garden of Prayer Deliverance Center. Garden of Prayer Deliverance Center was established in 1978 as a not-for-profit organization conducting religious, social, and educational activities.

The Camp Shaw-waw-nas-see is located across Rock Creek on the right 6000 West Camp Road of the Kankakee State Park. More than 110 acres of land consists of 30-foot cliffs, the Rock Creek, a climbing wall, challenge course, and horse stable. They also offer a lodge banquet hall, built in the 1940s with a full kitchen and a grand fireplace. Up to 250 people can be seated in the lodge. As well, 22 cabins are built on the land. Six cabins are fully winterized and include personal bathrooms and toilets. The other cabins are more rustic in style, where a central bathhouse is used for all other cabins. People may also camp in tents or RV's on the campgrounds with advance reservations.
Programs: Programs include the Residential Summer Camp for ages 7-17 and year-round day camp for ages 4-7. Environmental education tours are also offered year-round for schools and home-schoolers. Three riding areas are enclosed on the campgrounds. Horseback riding is offered to the general public. Horseback is also offered at the camp. They also offer guided hikes, such as "plant identification hikes".
Public Services: You may also contact the association for women's or men's retreats, or any other retreats for organizations. The 4-H Association rents out their facilities to the Boy and Girl Scouts. You call 815-933-3011 or e-mail the director. Volunteer opportunities are also available to the community, individuals or civic groups for the programs and summer camps.

Rick Selk, Executive Director. He has served as Executive Director of Kankakee Area YFC/USA from 1992-present. He also worked with the Kiwanis Club of Kankakee and has spoken at Chicago Bears Team Chapel Services. Mr. Selk also provides leadership to YFC –USA at their national office located in Denver, CO.
The mission of YFC is to raise up leaders instilled with Christian values and strong relationships. Within the Kankakee School District 111, YFC has programs at The King Club, where 45 meet Wednesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. This group is open to all 4th and 5th grade students from King Elementary School and Montessori Magnet School. Transportation is provided by a bus to and from the City Life Center. There is also a Kennedy Club 60, which runs programs for 6th graders. They meet on Thursdays for 3:30-5 p.m. The programs are overseen by Director Billy Kaufmann.
Kankakee High School City Life is a program that is primarily geared toward building relationships and teaching high school students. Programs include weekly club meetings throughout the school year, interpersonal groups, Bible studies, retreats and conferences, special events, and Project Serve trips. Meetings are held on Mondays from 6:30-8 p.m. Matthew Glenn and Aaron Clark lead activities and discussions.

Some summer events include the Kankakee Area Golf Classic in June, South Point Golf, Bike, Run Marathon in September and the Deep River Water Park and JV and High School camps. Youth for Christ also extends a hand to surrounding communities through service projects and spiritual development.
Volunteers work closely with the YFC Director to raise community awareness and support for this dynamic outreach. They are also needed for events and mailing.
