Founded in 1907, Olivet Nazarene University is an accredited Christian, liberal arts university offering more than 120 areas of study organized into four Schools and one College. It is centrally located on 250 acres of park-like campus in the historic village of Bourbonnais, with an ever-expanding influence throughout the region and around the world.
The student body is made up of more than 4,500 students (2,500 undergraduate) from more than 40 states and 20 countries, representing more than 30 religious denominations. There are more than 30,000 ONU alumni living around the world.
Olivet’s School of Graduate and Continuing Studies offers nearly 20 master’s degrees in such fields as business, counseling, education, nursing, ministry, teaching and educational administration, as well as nontraditional adult degree-completion programs and a Doctor of Education degree in ethical leadership. In addition to offerings in Bourbonnais, the School’s Chicago Regional Center is located in Rolling Meadows, and several cohorts meet throughout Chicagoland. Graduate level courses are also available in Hong Kong and Puerto Rico.
There are 17 intercollegiate teams in which men and women participate, plus an active intramural program. The ONU Tigers are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) and the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC).
Students participate in more than 50 clubs and organizations representing diverse interests, including publication, ROTC (Army), radio broadcasting, musical and theatrical performances, and spiritual life organizations.
As a Christian community, Olivet is committed to making worship of God the central focus. Chapel is a vital part of community life, and through these services, each segment of the college community has the opportunity to join with others for worship, instruction in the Word and encouragement to serve. Notable and world-renown speakers regularly address the ONU community during chapel.
Heard weekly by more than 100,000 listeners throughout Chicagoland, Olivet’s radio station, Shine.FM, is the only Christian hits station in the top three markets. In addition, Shine.FM streams online to 71 countries on six continents, and now features a 24/7 online worship channel. Shine.FM is also partnering with Africa Nazarene University and World Mission Broadcasting to launch Shine-Africa.
Olivet admits qualified students based on high school record (or college transcripts for transfer students) and ACT score. The average ACT score for incoming freshmen in 2008 was 23. The application process can be completed online at www.olivet.edu or mailed to the Office of Admissions.
