Kankakee County has three movie theaters — two in Kankakee owned by Downer’s Grove-based Classic Cinemas and one in Bradley owned by Dallas-based Cinemark.

The Paramount (213 N. Schuyler, Kankakee) opened April 11, 1931. Ramon Novarro’s “Daybreak” was the first film. Over the years, the theater has seen a number of unusual events, including a 1933 wedding onstage, and live appearances by Steve Allen and Norman Vincent Peale. The Paramount’s big theater was refurbished in 1988 by Classic Cinemas, which added four screens.

The Meadowview Shopping Center is home to the 1960s-style Meadowview Theatre, which has three screens. It is situated near the corner of Entrance Avenue and Brookmont Boulevard.

The most modern theater is Cinemark’s Movies 10 at Northfield Square in Bradley. Note that the Movies 10 hours are not the same as the Northfield Square general hours.
