How to Get a Permit: Drivers aged 15 need parent/guardian consent to obtain an instruction permit. The applicant must be enrolled in an approved driver education course, and must pass vision and written exams. The permit must be held for a minimum of nine months and the applicant must practice driving a minimum of 50 hours, including 10 hours of nighttime driving, supervised by a parent or adult age 21 or older with a valid driver's license.
How to Get a License: Individuals aged 16-17 go through an initial licensing phase that requires that they must have completed a state-approved driver education course; a parent/guardian must certify that a minimum of 50 hours of practice driving, including 10 hours of nighttime driving, has been completed; and a parent/guardian must accompany the teen to provide written consent to obtain a driver's license, OR complete and notarize an Affidavit/Consent For Minor to Drive form. Individuals 18 or older must take the written, vision and road test. In order to get a license bring proof of signature, date of birth, Social Security number and residency. In order to renew a license, proof of signature and the old driver’s license are needed.
