The Community Arts Council of Kankakee County is a non-profit umbrella organization for groups, businesses, individuals and artists in the Kankakee area dedicated to furthering the arts. It also strives to stimulate interest and participation in the arts within the community. Toward this end, it is currently raising funds to open an art center in Kankakee. It sponsors two annual events featuring artisans, craftsmen, musical entertainment and food vendors from all over the area: the Strawberry Jazz Festival in June held at Gov. Small Memorial Park (June 6, 2010), and the Fall Art Stroll in downtown Kankakee in October (Oct. 11, 2009).
Its’ newest project is TheMetro Centre Gallery, 1137 E 5000 N Rd., a partnership between CAC and Metro Transit Center which displays the art work of members. It is open 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The Council also offers student scholarships to summer arts camps
