Amtrak

Kankakee is served by three Amtrak trains daily in either direction. All leave from the Kankakee Depot on East Merchant Street.

Northbound
The City of New Orleans leaves Kankakee at 7:13 a.m. and arrives in Chicago at 9 a.m. The Saluki leaves Kankakee at 10:15 a.m. and arrives in Chicago at noon.
The Illini leaves Kankakee at 9 p.m. and arrives in Chicago at 10:45 p.m.
All northbound trains make an additional stop at Homewood.

Southbound
The Saluki leaves Kankakee at 9:22 a.m. and arrives in Carbondale at 1:45 p.m.
The Illini leaves Kankakee at 6:12 p.m. and arrives in Carbondale at 10:35 p.m.
Both the Saluki and the Illini also stop  in Gilman, Rantoul, Champaign, Mattoon, Effingham, Centralia and DuQuoin. The City of New Orleans leaves Kankakee at 9:23 p.m. and arrives in New Orleans at 3:32 p.m. the next day.

Additional stops are in Champaign; Mattoon; Effingham; Centralia; Carbondale; Fulton, Ky.; Newbern, Tenn.; Memphis; Greenwod, Miss., Yazoo City, Miss; Jackson, Miss; Hazlehurst, Miss.; Brookhaven, Miss; McComb, Miss; and Hammond, La.

Sleeper and dining car service is available on the City of New Orleans. Sandwiches, beverages and snacks are available on all trains.
